I am sorry, but I have to share this with you all. On my way too and from work I listen to the radio. Mostly I listen to Preaching and sometimes I can deal with “Christian” Music. But when neither are interesting I will listen to the local rock station, especially if they are playing Pink Floyd, or something just as good. Otherwise I drive in silence.

Well I keep hearing this commercial for Time Warner’s Digital Phone Service and it cracks me up. Maybe you have heard it. It is a girl complaining about her current phone service and all the “fees” that come with the bill. The Time Warner salesman is talking to her about the low cost of their phone service and how they will take away all her fees. At one point she opens up her old phone bill and you hear all these little “fee” creatures screaming, “fee, fee, fee, fee, fee” with a whine. The TW rep says, don’t worry we’ll take care of those for you.

I know, I know, it does not sound that funny. You’re right, it is a down right retarded commercial… but that’s not why it is funny either. What is funny is the “fine print.” You know, the part where the radio voice talks really fast, hoping that you won’t notice.

They claim that you can get TW Digital Phone for as low as 29.95$ (which is only the introductory price). The funny part is right at the end of the commercial they have one of those speed talkers. During his little diatribe he says, “price does not include taxes and fees.”

Yes, that’s right… fees.

So… read the fine print!

I rest my case.

  1. That is funny to me :)

Pink Floyd huh? Well, I think we would all be great friends IRL … Brandon and I are big Pink Floyd fans here (although haven’t listened to them much since leaving our former life behind …)

    Peace…

  2. Heather,

Glad you thought it was funny too. I realize that I did not at all do justice to the humor I feel when I hear this commercial. I literally get excited whenever it is on and pay very close attention to the end… and it cracks me up every time!

Yeah, I’ve been a fan of Floyd for a long long time… back in my former life as well…

When I became a Christian, I did what every good Christian does, got rid of all my devil music. Unfortunately, I came to the conviction that Floyd’s music is just music (it isn’t what goes in a man that corrupts him, but what comes out of him that corrupts).

So, now I have the privilege of being a Christian and listening to talented music :) – yes that is a slam on most Christian music today.

Anyways, I must digress (probably should have a few paragraphs ago).

    Thanks for the comment.

  3. Lew –

I’m right there with you on the CCM scene … never was a fluff-n-stuff kinda gal, never a “pop music” fan, and so must of the Christian music out there makes me gag (okay, maybe that was a bit much, but you get what I’m saying) …

    Peace…

  4. Yeah, what she said!

Except the Pink Floyd thing… I’m much to spiritually mature for that kind of music. ;-) LOL!

  5. Hello? Is there anybody in there?

Commercials are all about money – it’s a hit.

As far as CCM goes, I’m comfortably numb.

There is one Christian artist I tend to enjoy. I do not know if you have heard of him, but he is pretty talented. His name is Andrew Peterson. Check him out at http://www.andrew-peterson.com/.

My wife has family in Georgia. When we go down it is usually only for short trips, but the next time we are there for a long enough time, we should all get together. Her parents live in the Covington area.

I think you’ve hit your pun limit for the day (maybe the week) :).
