I’m using the term “paranormal” here to mean “unexplained”. I am not claiming that any of my these experiences were ghosts, or demons, or angels, or aliens, or interdimensional travelers. Although, I am pretty intrigued by the idea that I am living my own version of Interstellar, however unlikely that may be.

With that said, my first paranormal experience happened when I was a young child. I was about 10 or 11 years old. I was always an early risers in the house and when I woke up, I would walked down the hallway from my bedroom to our living room, plop down on the couch, turn on TV and watch Mr. Wizard or whatever cartoon caught my fancy. One weekend morning, this routine went as usual, except after I had turned on the television, I looked down the hallway back to my bedroom and saw that the bathroom light was on. The only problem was, I hadn’t used the bathroom and it wasn’t on when I walked by the bathroom to get to the living room.

I immediately thought there was an intruder in the house and ran to my parent’s room to wake up my mother to tell her the terrifying news. “Mommy, mommy, wake up, there is someone in the house!”, I told her She woke up, asked what I meant and I explained the whole ordeal to her. She got up, put on her house robe and walked out to the living room with me. Except, the bathroom light wasn’t on anymore. I swore up and down that it was on and she believed me, told me not to worry about it, and went back to bed.

Later she told me about her own experience with the hallways bathroom. One day, she was finished cleaning the bathroom, turned off the light, and was walking down the hallway when she heard a click. She turned around and saw that the bathroom light was on. She went back to the bathroom, turned off the light and started to walk away again, when she heard a click. So she went back to the bathroom, turned the light off one last time and walked away and then she heard the same click. Except this time she audibly said, “Fine if you want it on, keep it on” and continued her business.

Could it be a faulty light switch? Perhaps, but it’s never been changed or modified and to my knowledge, the “light” has only ever turned on by itself twice. Once with me and the time with my mother. My parents still live in this house and have for about 30 years now.
