This is the second section of my paper on Wine and Strong Drink in the bible. I wrote this paper over a year ago. It is not in its finished stage yet, but I wanted to share it all with you. Enjoy!
The Bible’s Attitude towards Wine and Strong Drink
On one hand, the Bible speaks to the dangers of drinking wine (Pro. 20; 21; 23; Joel 3; 1 Tim. 3; Titus 1, 2) as well as the dangers of drinking strong drink (Pro. 20; Isa. 5:11, 22). These dangers are always in the context of drinking too much wine or too much strong drink. On the other hand, biblical authors frequently use wine to symbolize blessings bestowed on mankind by the Lord (Deut 14; Psalm 104; Pro. 31; Ecc. 9; Isa. 25). Scripture even describes “strong drink” as a blessing on a few occasions (Deut. 14; Prov. 31). These blessings are usually in the context of God blessing His children or His children rejoicing in Him with drink.
